Six Sigma uses two methodologies, namely DMAIC and DMADV to take care of existing processes and new processes that need to be developed to reduce defects and improve quality respectively. These two methods of process improvement are recognized as the best quality management system that the commercial world has ever experienced.
Six Sigma, the stepping stone to success
The question that crosses everyone's mind is – what makes Six Sigma so high caliber, or process improvement tool quality? Six Sigma is Motorola's largest and most successful implementation process of quality improvement. The structured approach / 6 Sigma saved the reported company millions of dollars. The structure of Six Sigma encompasses the entire pyramid of the organization and requires all to devote 100% of their time to the application.
The best thing about the 6 Sigma approach is that it is the whole organization in the implementation process. Senior management is given a key role in identifying and project review. The group of middle management is composed of Champions and Master Black Belts who are responsible for solving problems and eliminating bottlenecks trans-jurisdictional.
Bottlenecks can be a threat to the successful implementation of strategies and the champions have to drive as if they were combat veterans. The Belts Black Maestro, by contrast, have to be extraordinarily talented in problem solving and the use of complex statistical tools. If an organization want to get all the benefits of Six Sigma, then everyone will have to put your best foot forward and act in unison.
How effective is it?
The statistical tools used are very sophisticated, versatile and have a highly personalized approach to every problem. 6 Sigma is considered a management tool essential – and why not – with their performance level of 3.4 defects per million opportunities, saving millions of dollars for the company and satisfy their customers. But is it really the ultimate tool for managing an organization or is the success of 6 Sigma result of just a bunch of hype?
On 22 January 2001, the failure of the strategy to position Sigma 6 Iridium, the satellite phone from Motorola as "the" satellite phone and delete all competitors fell flat. Therefore, we conclude that Six Sigma is a methodology to streamline the process and improve the quality and therefore increase the level of customer satisfaction for customers who buy the products.
