Age is probably the most important factor associated with overall breast cancer risk. Breast cancer risk increases as the largest in population in the menopause. Therefore, all recommended breast cancer screening are based primarily on age. Obesity, however, may be the major risk factor preventable associated with breast cancer. With the dramatic increase in obesity in the U.S., this may be the number one reason for a persistently high incidence breast cancer. Other physical factors also play a role in breast cancer risk. These include height, body shape, size breast and mammographic density. These physical factors are summarized below.
Body weight and breast cancer: a body weight women affects their risk of breast cancer, but the effect is different for premenopausal breast cancer and postmenopausal women. Most studies have found that overweight women (weighing over 175 pounds) have a lower risk of breast cancer before menopause and increased risk of breast cancer after menopause, compared with lean women (weighing less than 130 pounds). Since 80% of breast cancers occur after menopause, the negative effects of obesity outweigh the benefits. The results are the same whether the body weight is examined directly, or if BMI is used to adjust for the effects of height on body weight.
The body shape and breast cancer: Several human studies have found that women who carry more fat body in his stomach (apple shape) have higher rates of postmenopausal breast cancer compared to women with more body fat around their hips (pear shaped). This seems true regardless of body weight for women. The relationship of the location of body fat and the risk of menopause breast cancer has not been clearly determined
Height and breast cancer: the height of women has been associated with risk of breast cancer in many studies. Taller women (5 "9" or larger) have a small increased risk of breast cancer in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women women compared with shorter (5 '3 "or shorter). stature of a person is determined by the interaction of genetics and nutrition. How high could affect the risk of breast cancer is unclear.
Breast size and breast cancer: There is a popular belief that small breasts have a lower risk of breast cancer. This theory has been used to explain why women with breast implants have a lower risk of cancer breast. However, most studies have found no association between breast size and breast cancer risk. One study, however, found an increased breast cancer risk among lean women with large breasts. In this study, more than 4,000 women were grouped according to their bra size before delivery. Women who were lean (chest size under 34 inches) and had more breasts (size B, C or more cups) were at increased risk of breast cancer postmenopausal women in relation to breast the same size or smaller with an A cup size. Women with breast size was no other association between the cup size breast and breast cancer risk. More studies are needed to confirm these results
Mammographic density: Numerous epidemiological studies have shown that breast density measured on mammograms is a significant risk factor for breast cancer. The risk of cancer breast associated with the higher level of density was estimated to be much higher than in the lowest density. mammographic density appears to be predictive for development of invasive cancer after ductal carcinoma in situ (ductal carcinoma in situ). The increased density is associated with increased risk of breast cancer in women pre-and postmenopausal women, with the effect persists for ten years after the mammogram. Mammographic density has also proven to be a risk factor for cancer breast cancer in women with a family history of disease. Mammographic density is probably important, even in patients who are BRCA positive. In fact, the density mammography can actually have a significant hereditary component.
