He jumped out of the cage and grabbed me by the shoulders. My feeling quickly turned to amazement. It had sunk its claws in me! My thoughts was: "This cat definitely knows good manners. Someone has worked with him." I looked at the ticket on the door of the cage. He said: "Morgan, male, 14. "
14 years old? I hesitated. That was pretty old. I put it back in the cage and walked around the house, looking for other cats. There were many other nice and kittens.
But my mind kept returning to Morgan, and I realized that, in fact, I had joined him. Fourteen years however, had become friends.
THE PLIGHT OF THE SENIOR CAT
One of the saddest things you'll see in the Animal Shelters number of older cats waiting for adoption. In general, people are looking for kittens.
The older cats languish, many happy homes where they were loved and cared for and raised in the shelter for some reason known only to the owner and cat.
Many people who do not like older cats, like kittens. Kittens are cute, cuddly and fun. They make nice pets – but lose the "joy" when they grow up, and with it the "love" only.
Someone said that the mark of a true cat lover is the desire has grown cats kittens.
A kitten is NOT ALWAYS Where It's At
Many people do not think about the consequences of adopting a kitten, or take one or two puppies from the litter a friend is trying to get rid of, or entry into its home one left on your doorstep.
Here are some questions you should ask before adopting a kitten:
1. The care of themselves. The Kittens are very marginal in being able to take care of themselves, especially when it comes to using a litter box. Do you have time to train your kitten home?
2. Young children. Do you have young children at home? A 2 or 3 may inadvertently kill a kitten. Older children should be taught how play and should be monitored closely.
3. Other pets. Will you bring a kitten home to a house with other older pets? Make sure you have the time to introduce and acclimate their pets to the kitten (and vice versa)
4. Dangers of the House. Is there anything dangerous in your home that could harm a kitten? If you are not home during the day, made sure your kitten is safe while unsupervised?
5. Adoptions other than a shelter animals. . If adopting a kitten from a friend, or take one of the trash of a mother cat, is ready to castrate and sterilize the kitten and give the shots you need?
6. Vaccines. A kitten receives all vaccines at a time. You must ensure you have the time and interest to get your complete system.
CAT ADOPTION OF ADULTS
Somebody said cats are like shoes: one size does not fit all. However there are some general reasons one might say with adoption of a mature cat over a kitten:
1. An adult cat is easier to care for. In fact, largely an old cat can almost take care of itself. Ideal for the working person can not be home during the day.
2. Older cats are generally calmer than younger ones, and adapt more easily to a new environment.
3. Older cats usually come with their shots and spaying or neutering. A kitten, even adopted by shelter needed a series of shots.
4. Older cats are better with children than a kitten. It is better to have more animal that can defend itself.
5. Older cats tend to be tamed. You'll have to train a kitten.
6. Older cats can feed and take care of themselves while a kitten may need your help – not good for a busy working person.
7. An adult cat can "defend itself" against the family pets (like dogs) better than a kitten can. Unless you are there to defend it, certain life situations are not good for a new kitten.
8. Older cats can better handle motion if moving home. All you have to make sure that your cat recognizes your new location as their den "and not try to return to their old site.
9. And finally – older cats catch mice. In these days of smarter mice that avoid all the traps known, an adult cat can be very valuable.
THE JOY OF HAVING A SENIOR CAT
Well, his name was "Morgan", but I renamed it "Tab" because had the typical hallmarks of a cat. Tab and I eventually learned to respect others, and – despite a tough old alley cat – the time enjoyed sitting on my lap with his battered ears stroked.
He lived five more years, and died at the ripe age of 19. During that time he was my classmate two years of unemployment, providing plenty of understanding, comfort and love.
One day he definitely "earn their livelihood." I found a dead rat in the room, his neck bitten almost in half. The rat was almost as big as file, but who had fought on the ground and killed him.
So both for the adoption of kittens. I prefer to take a tough alley cat any day of the week.
