SLR cameras are advanced, high-end cameras for professional photographers and for enthusiastic fans. These photographers gravitate toward the cameras SLR because they are faster, more accurate picture taking, and are more adaptable.
Have you ever used a movie camera and realized that the taken picture is slightly off-center of the image that is framed through the viewfinder, especially in close-ups? This occurs because you can look through the lens real camera and the shutter and the film (or in the case of digital cameras, the image sensor) are on the road. Therefore, the viewer is at a side the actual camera lens, which in two slightly different angles of view.
SLR cameras solve this problem by using mirrors and prisms to the photographer to see through the lens of the camera. This is achieved by reducing a mirror in the lens box. The mirror reflects the image comes through of the lens upward into a prism, which in turn passes the image in the viewfinder. In this way, the photographer can see exactly what the camera lens is seeing, except for the brief moment when the photograph is taken.
At this point, the mirror flips up out of the box shape of the lens. The shutter opens, exposing the film or image sensor to the light coming through the lens. The image is captured, the shutter closes, the mirror drops back down and the photographer can see again through the viewfinder.
The introduction of digital point and shoot cameras, the game changed a bit. Also allow the photographer to see exactly what the lens is seeing. They have limitations, however, that some professional photographers feel that they are unusable. The main drawback of the digital camera business is a considerable lag between the time the photographer presses the button and when the camera actually captures the image. During those seconds, the camera can be pushed, the change of angle, the displacement of the lens out of focus, or the subject being photographed can be moved. Although perfectly well for still images, the photographers who need to capture an image at once, such as sports, action, or wildlife photographers, the delay time is unacceptable.
A new generation of digital SLR cameras (DSLR) combine the best of both technologies. They use the reflex mirror system to allow the photographer to see exactly what the lens sees. Simply by replacing the film behind the shutter with a digital image of the light sensor in place, a digital SLR camera is being able to capture images instantly. Thus, a digital SLR camera combines the accuracy and speed of a camera SLR with the convenience of digital cameras.
As digital SLR cameras are usually high-end machines aimed at a professional market which tend to be more expensive, but also incorporate other advanced features. An average digital SLR camera usually includes autofocus options, live preview, electronic flash control, the ability to share specialized lenses and electronic adjustment of digital images captured, as the optimization contrast and color, redeye correction, and black and white options, among many others. Digital SLR cameras also tend to have a larger sensor digital imaging, which provides better images with higher pixel resolution, lowest noise, and a superior range of colors. While the price of DSLR cameras make a financial investment, professional photographers and amateur enthusiasts consider themselves well worth it.
