It is the jewelry of the mixture (ie gold and silver) is always right?

I've always heard this is a major fashion Paux false, but I was watching The Hills the other day and (OMG, this sounds so stupid … lol) Heidi wore pearl studs with a silver necklace. Not that Heidi from The Hills is an image of "perfection of fashion "or anything (haha), but I wonder. My friend always wears silver rings that never takes off with a necklace of golf that never leaves. Of course, you can use whatever want, but always taught me it was a bit tacky (especially x-bracelets or mixture of silver and gold … thank goodness. I hate those.) If I had to follow the "rules unwritten fashion "is always good to mix jewelry? Can you use the gold with silver, pearls with gold or silver, etc? Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned? ask! * * Faux pas;)

I've always heard that silver and gold do not go together. I personally never do, just does not look good. Pearl Nails and a gold necklace or silver is good though as no shock.
