My dog has a cyst in the tail, the vet said it was not malignant, but suggested surgery. What do you think?
I have a great mixture of 10 Pyranese age. She is in good health except for some arthritis and a cist in the queue. It's a little bigger than a golf ball and the vet tested the tissue and said he did not appear to be malignant. He did not realize that has grown over the last year, but neither he brought the idea of surgery. It is assumed that my dog is sufficiently well to that. I do not see putting my dog through surgery to remove it if it is not causing any real problem. I do not see him very upset. The worst thing that has made the drain twice that I know. My dog was sore and spoiled its tail when it drains, so perhaps little or something, but I gave her dog aspirin and it was fine the next day. Is this value from the surgery?
I've been in a similar place to myself. My inclination is to take care of it and have it removed if your dog is healthy enough. If it starts to become a problem later and his dog has become too old for surgery, then it can be a real problem. My old dog ended up get a lot of cysts and benign tumors, which gave him some problems, but by the time she was 15 years too old to do something about it, so had to live with them.
