Is tiger woods pretty much the only popular golfer to people who don’t follow golf?
according to that article viewers dropped 57.6% in 2008 when tiger didn’t play!!!!

people who don’t follow the nba, nfl, and mlb know more than one player but in golf I believe it’s different…..people who don’t follow golf only know tiger woods

Yeah, I’ve heard people tell me that they only watch golf if Tiger is playing. Then that means that they are fans of Tiger and not the game of golf itself. I’ve gone to the Buick Invitational in San Diego, CA since 2007, and in the beginning of this year Tiger was not there and I still went – I’ll be going in 2010 as well and he won’t be there. If the PGA and golf media focused on other golfers besides Tiger and made them popular there wouldn’t be a drop in ratings at all, but it’s all about Tiger. Many people don’t even know that there is a golf channel. You’re right, Tiger is the only popular golfer to people who don’t follow golf.
