Torrey Pines is certainly an option, but it's difficult, "the only real option." And I would say its golf courses, while very good, they are city-owned/operated, full of locals in search of a bargain, and therefore do not provide a resort atmosphere. (This is not the case of the Lodge.) Any talk of the golf resorts of San Diego should include La Costa Resort & Spa (http://www.lacosta.com/) in Carlsbad, which was home to a PGA Tour event for 40 years. La Costa has two golf courses, multiple housing options, and multiple restaurants. Recently underwent a major renovation, and although not perfect, is a heck of a lot better than it was several years ago. Also in Carlsbad, another option is the Four Seasons Resort Aviara (http://www.fourseasons.com/aviara/). Although only one golf course is a fantastic Arnold Palmer design.
