Looking for an “Intermediate” Driver?
I’ve been playing golf for about a year and i guess i could say im “ok” at it. I’ve been using a wal-mart driver for sometime now and it’s on its last leg and needs to be replaced/upgraded. I’m looking for something of a quality name priced under $200. Dicks sporting goods curently has the Nike Sumo, Callaway X460, and Taylormade r7 all for sale at $199 but i dont know which is the best. I’ve also been looking at the Adams Ovation 2 and the Slazenger Raw Distance. Can anybody help?
The quest for the perfect driver is like a saga in every golfers life. A general rule is that you always hit your buddys new driver better than you hit your own, at least until you buy one. I suggest that you look at the new square faced drivers. I hit a few at the range and I walked away thinking that they should be illegal. They are so easy to hit and they will add distance to your drive. The drawback is that they sound like you hit a baseball with a metal bat and they are not real easy to shape, they just go straight and long…(and who wants that) If you want a name brand I would say that all of those fit the bill. Personally I have always been a TaylorMade fan.
If you narrow it down to a couple and can’t decide, go with the one with the best shaft. The shaft of the club is every bit as important as the head of the club. Calloway makes there own shafts and their graphite shafts have always been a little suspect in my book. Also get the right flex and kick point on the shaft and the right loft of the driver. If you have the time, go to a golf shop, take all the drivers that fit your price range and have them put you in the net with the machine that measures swing speed, ball spin, launch angle. (It’s free) you will learn which club optimizes your swing. Good luck.
