Is it a rule of golf to play 4 ball Matchplay 3 / 4 of the difference in handicap is used?
No, not a "rule of golf," although 3 / 4 formula used to be almost universal in match play. Often confused with the term "a Rule of Golf," which only encompasses the rules set by and regulated by the Royal and Ancient (R & A), which governs golf in this country. As far as I know, the R & A do not issue rules on issues such as injury allowance stroke, but they did a few years ago, suggest or recommend that the 3 ex / 4 is replaced by a full complement of the difference in handicap. If they felt 3 / 4 was wrong, why not go to 7 / 8 as an experiment is beyond me, for what they were saying in effect was that what had been recommending for 30 years or more was completely wrong. It's just my opinion but as a handicap means without prejudices, tend to earn comps Matchplay for low handicaps due to their greater consistency in the round and the competition. The biggest handicap often get stage fright that receive a lot of shots and does not perform. I had no problem receiving only 3 / 4 of my shots in terms of its fairness. The result, in many cases now is that the lowest handicaps are discouraged from entering Matchplay events as they have little chance to give a lot of shots, if your opponent just plays his game. If no more boring everyone, is because HandCap is issued on the basis of the medal round played, where Matchplay shots allowed in a hole by hole basis, ie in the hole 1, you can beat your opponent by 3 shots, but they are only a hole above. He may have a 10, but not lose the hole. Most clubs know that now use full compensation
