How does scoring in matchplay work?
just a casual observer of golf and not a player or sophisticated observer.
you win holes by doing better than your opponent on a certain hole
for example
Hole 1
Player A & B shoot 4 each-they are even
Hole 2
Player A shoots a 3 while B shoots a 4-Player A is 1 Up Because they won one hole to B’s none
Hole 3
Player B shoots a 5, A shoots a 9-They are even since they’ve each won a hole, despite B’s better stroke count
At the end, Player A ends up winning 3 and 2 for example. 3 is the number of holes he is up and 2 is the number of holes remaining
Your trying to do better than your opponent by beating them on individual holes is the short description
