Thinking about becoming a day trader?

What step should I take if I wanted to be serious about becoming a day trader? I am 19 years old and currently in school perusing a degree in professional golf management. However my farther has taught me a great deal about stocks, investments etc.. (Hes a financial adviser for Met Life)

I understand that the market right now is horrible. However, I’m hoping with a new president and a new year coming up that things may get better. I have an account with scottrade ready to go. I am just not sure what are good source websites for quotes, tips, etc. I’m very serious about learning how to work the stock market and do it well.

I know that day traders normally lose money, I am willing to treat it like a full time job, and put my time in to research companies. Any ideas, comments, are well appreciated. Thanks. -Chris.

First, you need to be clear about what you want.

Daytrading requires almost no company research, little knowledge of investing. Day trading is pure speculation, and you need a real time data feed (NOT a website for quotes) and a good charting program.

Get yourself a half dozen books, and then go take a few classes. There are some decent webinars out there as well. Spend 6-18 months learning about day trading and practicing in real time. And btw, this is a GREAT market for trading (but not so good for investors), so your first mission is to understand the difference between trading and investing, and be clear on what you want.
