Does Watson have a chance at St. Andrews in 2010?
The golfing gods owe us big time for giving Watson that terrible break on his approach on the 18th at Turnberry.
Does he have a chance to win at St. Andrews next year? There will be minimal changes to the course, except the 4th hole and the changes will be favorable to Watson. St. Andrews is generally regarded as a long-hitter’s course today and the winning score will be like -15. Turnberry definitely suited his game better than St. Andrews will.
There is one piece of flimsy history on his side – Watson won his 5 British Opens at different courses, which is quite a feat in itself. The one course in Scotland has has not won at is St. Andrews! Can the great gentleman do it?
Ben. Watson already said he is preparing and will definitely be there because he qualified with his 2nd place finish. I didn’t forget Woods and it would be a shock if he doesn’t win in 2010.
Tom Watson did better with his driver than any other player in the Open. His shot over the 18th green was a mental mistake because he had a mid pin position with plenty of room between the front pot bunkers and the green and he flushed the ball right over the green. He pitched back too far and put the worst putting stroke on the ” winning ” putt that was ever televised. A fine example of a person who didn’t go though his pre putting routine.
