Is this a good golf score for a thirteen year old?
i just turned 13 and I usually shoot 85 on a par 72 course
That depends on you. Are you looking to play high school golf, college golf, etc. and do you play often? What are your goals?
To any yahoo that plays twice a week and can’t break 100, sure that’s a good score, but in jr tournaments, that’d put you in the top ten at best in a field of 20. Visit www.pga.com or www.usga.com for more info on jr events.
Pga.com should have a list of PGA sections at the bottom of their homepage. Click on the one nearest you, and start surfing around for jr golf. Winners of individual events between 12 & 14 yrs old are right around 72-76 for 18 holes.
So for someone who’s not really serious about golf, good for you, you’re doing great. But if you’re looking to challenge the big boys one day, keep in mind that Tiger’s handicap is +8. If you shoot 85 on average, your handicap is about 11 or 12. Do the math, and he’s got you by more than a shot per hole, plus he’s playing the toughest courses in the world. Where are you playing?
Compared to all the 13 yr olds in the world, you’d be in the top 10% shooting 85. But if we’re talking competitive golf, you need to get under 80 ASAP.
And don’t listen to the guy who said he plays in high school tournaments and can’t break 80 (the 15 yr old). He sucks and is probably on the JV girls team or plays where there is no competition, like in Alaska.
