Do you think that the Crusades continue to this day?
Muslims world has been divided. Several of the golf states are in effect USA controlled, similar to crusader castles and cities. Iraq and Afghanistan have been invaded. Coalitions are formed and unite in their political and military suppression of Independent Muslim states, who dont sell out. American forces are stationed throughout the Arab world. They occupy arab seas and fly over Arab sky’s. People often speal about the crusades as something confined to history, but do the crusades continue to this day?
I don’t believe so. If we look at the Crusades as a time of spreading Christianity, or on the other perspective, a time of spreading Islam, then not really. The modern wars in the middle east are not based on religion, at least from the western perspective. It is oil/product/security based. That is not to say that it is more right, however. Religion tends to be brought up, as it usually is, by people looking to justify killing people; that is to say, by having holy wars. Both fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims are guilty of doing this. In the end, imperialism is imperialism, regardless of whether it comes from a corner in the Arab world, or in the western world. The Crusades, in contrast, were essentially Europeans trying to keep Jerusalem and the surrounding areas in Christian hands, whereas the Arabs were trying to keep it in Muslim hands, (meaning absolute ownership in both cases). (On a side note, Semitic peoples always lived in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas, and were invaded by both Europeans and Arabs, particularly during the Crusades). The current situation is different because it comes down to oil and control of specific world needs- not religion, regardless of the stance of fundamentalists on either side.
