Bug bite that has a huge red area surrounding it…in my 2 year old!?
My 2 year old was playing outside about 2 weeks ago, and he got a few insect bites. They were pretty large bites, but he wasn’t complaining at all. They eventually scabbed up. All of a sudden, yesterday, they developed very large red areas around them. One is a perfect circle and about the size of a quarter, and the other is just less than a perfect circle and is much larger than a half dollar (close to the size of a golf ball). Both have a small purple area in the center, and the red area is mildly raised, red, and hot to the touch. He has itched it, so I presume it is itchy. I have looked at images of impetigo, lyme disease, cellulitis, and MRSA, and I don’t know what to think?? Any ideas?
Take him to the doctor. It could be lyme disease but it seems odd he has multiple marks like that.
Anyways, take to the doctor and get some tests done. Better safe than sorry, and if it is something, better to deal with it early.
