Strange digital image issue: strong magnetic field disrupting images?
Has anyone had, or heard of, strong magnetic anomaly’s (iron deposits in the ground) affecting digital images made with Fujifilm SX900?
If so, can a Faraday cage surmount the issue?
I did series of shots @ a golf course & the shots were unusable, so I deleted them; then re-shot the series & they to were unusable.
I later was told this area also caused aircraft instrumentation to get whacked, so I wondered if this isogonic anomaly is the possible cause, and is there a digital work-around.
Any ideas?
Probably not.
Perhaps if you had your camera around or near heavy magnetic fields like those found on MRI’s and cyclotrons, you could experience some issues when the image data coming from the analog to digital converter is being written to your memory card, but I doubt that any unusual, but natural magnetic field could do that kind of interference when using a digital camera.
If you will link us to a few samples of the resulting images, perhaps one of us here can point you in the right direction to find a permanent solution.
Have you had someone else use their camera at the same time, in the same place while you are shooting, coming up with the same or similar results?
I would first look to the camera for the source of the problem. Try contacting Fujifilm and sending them a copy of a few image files suspected of being disrupted by this phenomenon
Walking around attempting to shoot sports photographs with a Faraday cage wrapped around you, may be too expensive and clumsy to be worthwhile. I would switch to using film to cover your events until you can resolve this issue. You can then scan the film into your computer or have the lab make high resolution CD’s of your images during the processing phase of the films development and printing.
