Today I will present the oldest ladies golf club in the world – The Ladies Carnoustie Golf Club to you.
Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club was established in August 1873 for the benefit of the wives of members of the Dalhousie Golf Club.
These ladies played over 18 holes, par 3 golf course that stretched westward from The Burning Lochty. The course was on land donated for the use of the ladies by Miss Kinloch. The maintenance of the field golf course was paid entirely by the members who hired his own keeper from the field, the ladies also had their own maintenance team green! Unlike today, the golf season at that time was very short, generally from July to September, which coincided with the influx of holidaymakers from Dundee, Edinburgh and its surroundings in the coastal town of Carnoustie.
In 1875, the annual subscription for the club was 2/6d (12p), with an entrance fee of 5 / – (25p). The often played prizes donated by the lords of the Dalhousie Golf Club, who were very generous. In 1868 a Miss E Stewart won the gold medal with a score of 115 on 36 holes, which was also presented with a set of gold bracelets, 2nd prize this time was a gold bottle of perfume.
In 1895 the club moved to his new club was built has changed little since those days. In 1899, the maintenance of the course was taken by the district commissioners, and after the redesign of all course by James Braid in 1920, during the Ladies Short "was abandoned in favor of the Ladies new teas that had been built on the Carnoustie links.
Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club remains largely the same way as always, the composition of 100 Ladies' remains fairly constant.
