Ever seen one of those television programs that show the fabulous fishing available in Canada, (also known as the "Great White North) and asks, can that really be true? Fish can be really big? The landscape can be so spectacular?
It's true!
From the east coast of the maritime provinces of the vast forested area of coastline on the west bank of British Columbia, Canada offers fishing is so abundant and unspoiled, fishermen from around the world visit each year, then subsequently return year after year.
All fishing provinces offer that is unique to them, but all are connected by a common theme, and that's about discovering the vastness of lakes and rivers in the northern regions.
Look to the province Ontario, 95% of its population resides in the lower regions representing perhaps 10% of its land mass. What's in the other 90%?
Huge lakes, crystal clear, and rivers. Thousands of them! And all full of fish.
Whether you're looking for a weekend retreat that is accessible by car family, or the "trip of a lifetime, a visit to a remote northern lake accessible only by float plane, this province offers it all.
Compare this with the further expansion of Nunavut. Here is a territory that is almost entirely north of the 60th parallel, and has nearly all its regions inaccessible road. There is simply no!
But fishing? Home to more IGFA records than any other region of freshwater in the world!
Did you know you know the Northwest Territories is home to the 5th largest body of freshwater in the world?
Great Bear Lake is 500 kilometers north of Yellowknife and the nearest road is about 300 miles Standing away? Approximately 12,500 square miles of waters, which under ice for all but perhaps 100 days year. Water so cold that the fish grow so slowly that it can be 60-80 years old.
Then consider this.
Only one community in this lake. Maybe 500 people tops! Four Fishing Lodges, more than 280 miles of lake from one to the next nearest! Ice-free just a couple of months, fishing lodges can run only 2 months short of a year. The total capacity between them is perhaps the 160 fishermen, spread over 12,500 square miles!
Also, consider Great Slave Lake. Located 300 miles south of Great Bear Lake, Great Slave Lake is almost as large an expanse of water, almost as isolated, but has the advantage of a bustling border city type, located on its shores. Yellowknife, capital of the territory is also the "hub" for many from remote northern lakes and fishing lodges, and that is served by a modern airport with regular flights, frequent and daily connecting the southern cities with more or as the north they call it, "the outside"
With statistics like these, do you think that these fishing lodges can offer a unique fishing experience?
