Internet Explorer is not using Local Area Connection to connect.?

When I try to get on the web, with Internet explorer, it says “Not Connected.” ” Connect ” when you click connect it brings up a dial-up connection box. If i click stay offline, it doesn’t do anything. I can ping a site through the command prompt so i know it is working, but please help with the internet explorer issue. I can’t seem to find anyone on the web that has had this problem. Thanks in advance.

have you opened ie and gone to tools>internet options> selected the connections tab and then made sure that the never dial a connection button is marked?
