Have you decided to take the course? Perhaps it is popular with others in your office or your friends say it is a relaxing hobby. Whatever your reason, there are some basic rules I need to know to make your first time on the golf course a little easier. Understanding the course you are playing will help you save a lot of problems when comes, and it has the right golf clubs and equipment will be easier too.
First, ask your teammates to know if someone has already booked a tee time. If no one has done, offer to call and make reservations. Some golf courses require only one day in advance while others want to call several days in advance. After setting up your reservation, make sure you actually arrive on time. In fact, it is often advisable to arrive 30 minutes earlier. You can always use the time to do some practice on the driving range.
Before clicking on the green, make sure you find out if the golf course you are using has a code dress. The typical dress code is a pair of pants or khaki shorts and a golf shirt collar. Golf shoes and golf gloves are generally optional but they are pieces of equipment that many golfers find useful. Just make sure you know the rules before coming to save the frustration and embarrassment.
It is also important to know what kind of golf course to be used because in some cases, you will need to bring money to tip the employees. If you are in most public golf courses, this will not be a problem. However, most private public courses, or even higher quality will accept tips. This includes the person who brings a car when you arrive, men or women driving a beverage cart around the course, or the rider who takes his golf clubs and equipment to and from your vehicle. Consider the price of green fee to determine how much to tip.
It is also very important that you pack the right equipment. You should have as golf clubs many that are needed, to the maximum allowed, which is usually fourteen clubs. This will eliminate loans from others who are not allowed. Sure carry a lot of golf balls and tees. If you are a beginner, you will most likely lose a lot of balls, so it is imperative that you have a lot of extras. Although you can not play for the highest standards as they learn, do not want to bother those who play with you constantly lending them equipment.
Finally, it is imperative that you pay close attention to their moves on the golf course. Have your golf club ready when it's your turn, and always be prepared to play. Slow play groups are often as problems on the green, and it is even easier to stop others when you are a beginner. Make use of shifts of others to decide which golf club to use and what you will putt. If your group is still slower than a group that is behind you and are detained for their group, it is common courtesy to allow them to play through your group.
