Is there any sense of India as the country's need to intensify in the Olympics?
India has the second most 1.1Billion largest in the world. Its economy is growing very fast second only to China in Asia. However, the medal account at the Olympics are terrible at best. Not to mention the other sporting events (next to cricket and golf). I have many Indian friends in the SA College and at work. They are perfectly suitable and love sports. I totally believe they are capable. Why not go for more medals Indians or invest more in training?
This is something that also has surprised me too. I think one reason is that Indian sports is largely conducted by the government, and huge investment is only intended for organizations such as cricket and field hockey. Other sports Indians ie tennis, golf, etc., receive much less funding. Cricket, by far, is a time national past, and the government is not doing enough to diversify the sports being played in the country. Maybe its profits are concerned, to see how Cricket generates a large amount of income in India. In the previous poster suggested, it also has to do with the fact that India is still developing. Although some people maybe interested in other sports, there is little need to focus on medal counts or Olympic sports. either because people are trying to get an education, or some of these resources are eaten up by politicians. The only reason why China is so rampant in this sector who feel that the Olympics is a way for demonstrate that their country is superior and therefore pumping money into the training and selection of children from an early age, the groom separately from his family only for Olympic stars. India is a democracy, and therefore does not allow such activity. In any case, I hope that India improvement in this area in coming years, as it has done to its economy.
