Five finalists announced Honda Broderick Cup
The Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced last June 20, the five finalists for their level highest annual award – the Collegiate Athlete of the Year. By a vote of more than 1,000 NCAA member institutions, the finalists were chosen. Winner will be named in a special press conference June 25 in New York and will receive the prestigious Honda Broderick Cup 2007
The cut is co-sponsored Honda Motor Co., maker of quality of Honda car bra, while American Honda Motor Co. Co., Inc. will host the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Program.
5 This year, finalists were selected from Honda previously announced winners in 12 different sports sanctioned NCAA sport. They are Monica Abbott, University of Tennessee (softball), Paula Infante, University of Maryland (Field Hockey), Heather O'Reilly, University of North Carolina (Soccer) Candace Parker of the University of Tennessee (basketball) and Sarah Pavan, University of Nebraska (volleyball).
Debout "6'3, Monica Abbott is a lefty which is essentially all softball pitching career and single season record University of Tennessee. During his senior year, he set the record in a season crossed 724. And giving the nation with a 50-5 overall record over a 0.68 ERA and 29 solo shutouts in 358.1 innings, ended his 2007 season and last year. Abbott is a four-time NFCA All-American records for career NCAA Division I victories (189), appearances (253), strikeouts (2440) shutouts (112) and innings pitched (1448.0).
Paula Infante is a native of Santiago de Chile is a senior midfielder or defender. She brought her team to its second NCAA title in a row this year and earned first-team All-American team and first NCAA Tournament All-four times. For the second time, was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Defensive Player of the year. Infante has also received all Mid-Atlantic Region title. This season had 12 goals (including five winners the game) and recorded 30 points. He finished his college career with 58 goals and 139 career points. Moreover, she was also named All-ACC and all-region in four times and won twice the price of Honda Sports.
A high interest Heather O'Reilly was his team captain of the NCAA College Cup title this year. She was named the most outstanding offensive player of the tournament for the second time. It is ranked as the third best in the history of NCAA women's soccer tournament 15 goals, 14 assists and 44 points. For the second time, was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy this year. O'Reilly is also the Soccer America National Player of the Year candidate and three-time Honda Sports Award. He finished college with 59 goals and 49 assists for 167 points.
Candace Parker is a sophomore 6-foot-4, was recently appointed player John R. Of wood per year and 2007 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He earned the distinction of being named both the Player of the Year and Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year SEC. The youngest recipient of the State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year, Parker scored in double digits in all games of the NCAA Tournament, played with 19.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game this season averages. He was also named first team All-America and the Center Dayton Regional MOP.
Sarah Pavan is a 6'5 "junior from Kitchener, Ontario, who brought the Huskers to a 33-1 record, third national title and the school No. 1 ranking for the NCAA team the entire season last year. She was the NCAA Most Outstanding Player and 2006 AVCA National Player and winner of ESPN: The Magazine 2006 Academic All-American of the year with a 4.00 average in biochemistry. Other career highlights include an average of 5.10 per game that led to death of the 12 large and scored his tenth of the nation for kills.
Other nominees were Duke University, Amanda Blumenherst for golf at Northwestern University 3-time Honda Sports Award, Kristen Kjellman for lacrosse, the University of Georgia Courtney Kupets for gymnastics at the University of Georgia Kara Lynn Joyce for swimming; Sally Kipyego Texas Tech cross country skiing, Auburn University, Kerron Stewart for athletics and the University of Miami's Audra Cohen for tennis.
Honda-winner Broderick Cup in 2006 was the soccer star Christine Sinclair of Portland University.
