Tiger Woods Stats Masters 2010

Tiger Woods’ Majors 2010

Interestingly, I would have tipped Tiger to win two majors in 2010 before the car crash and sensational revelations about his private life.

In other words, I’m predicting that Woods’ extraordinary mental strength will help keep the world number one on track next year despite everything that will be thrown at him.

Woods has proved the doubters wrong time and time again when cracks have appeared. It’s hard to believe now but after disappointing results in the 2003/4 majors, on the eve of the 2005 season Woods was being quoted at 7/1 to win the US Masters and 7/1 to win the Open at St Andrews. Of course he made a mockery of those odds by winning both.

It’s all too easy and convenient to think that a shattering incident in someone’s private life will have a massive effect on performance in the work place – especially in the sporting world. In fact, the Observer published a stat recently saying that 70% of sportsmen end up getting divorced so it happens all the time and the game goes on. In Tiger’s case the unrest and intrusion will be on a much, much bigger scale but whether he sorts out his marriage problems or not I think it’s a mistake to think it will translate into him falling to pieces as a golfer.

Some well-respected punters believe Tiger’s ‘I’ll show you’ attitude will result in the mayhem driving him towards a Grand Slam in 2010 (a 33/1 chance). A neat thought but we’ve seen this year that as Tiger tries to reel in Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors it becomes harder and harder to add to his tally as he enters the home straight.

To conclude, with all that’s going on in his life, 2010 promises to be an extremely difficult year for the 14-time major winner. But with the leg up of playing two majors on courses where he’s enjoyed amazing success in the past it’s a reasonable prediction that Tiger emerges with the US Open trophy and the Claret Jug on his mantelpiece.

Woods made a habit of returning to happy hunting grounds and conquering them again in 2009 (Bay Hill, Muirfield Village,Warwick Hills, Firestone). And he can do so again at Pebble and St Andrews in 2010.

Tiger winning that precise double is quoted at 10/1 by Stan James.
