Michael Jordan will play in Pro-Am, but NOT with Tiger Woods
04.27.2010 Charlotte, N.C. – Reports have recently emerged that NBA legend, avid golfer, and owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Michael Jordan will not be paired with Tiger Woods with a pro-am appearance at the Quail Hollow Championship.
Jordan was last paired with Woods in 2007, but that will not be the case this year, as Jordan will be paired up with Fred Couples. Maybe it has something to do with rumors surrounding Jordan’s influence over Woods, as an enabler to him cheating on his wife.
Having Michael Jordan appear at Quail Hollow is only icing on the cake for the record crowds that will attend the sold-out Quail Hollow Championship this week in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We are excited Michael has agreed to join us again this year,” said Kym Hougham, the executive director of the event. “Michael and Fred are two great personalities and I am positive the fans will enjoy interacting with both of them and watching them compete.”
As important a figure as Michael Jordan is to sports, the many early bird spectators that arrived at the Quail Hollow Club on Tuesday, were all in wonder to, where is Tiger and Phil? Golf’s respectably No.1 and No.2 players in the world.
It turns out that Woods was in Asheville, N.C. checking up on the progress of a course he is building at High Carolina, while Mickelson was departing SoCal and to arrive in Charlotte some time Tuesday afternoon. It was unclear whether either of the golf greats would be able to get any practice in, as it had begun to rain in the area.
This year’s Quail Hollow Championship will feature 9 of the top 15 players in the world, as both Woods and Mickelson will be on site for the pro-am. Tiger Woods will make his first start a regular PGA Tour event since his very public sex scandal, yet this will be the second tournament of 2010 for Woods, as he recently finished tied for fourth at the Masters about three weeks ago.
Woods will be paired up with Stewart Cink and Angel Cabrerra with a 7:40 a.m. tee off time on Thursday’s first round at Quail Hollow, where he is the “Las Vegas Odds” favorite to win the tournament.
