Can you import a UK spec Volkswagen Golf 2.0L FSI (Petrol) into the USA? (Right-hand drive)?
I am moving back to the US unexpectedly and am toying with the idea of shipping back a car that I bought in the UK. It is a 2004 Volswagen Golf 2.0L FSI (right-hand drive). I cannot seem to find the info I need as to if it is importable into the US. (meets FMVSS standards, emmissions etc). Any input would be helpful.
Has nothing to do with the right hand drive. I tried it with a Ford Ka from Ireland.
The answer is essentially, no. There is so much retrofit smog, safety and design work to be done that it becomes prohibitiviely expensive.
Call an importer – any one you want from the internet. That person can tell you everything that needs to be done.
