Acid rain is the collection of rain drops that contain pollutants such as sulfur oxide and nitrogen. This combination creates acid water droplets. Acid rain is acidic flavor chemistry. The main sources of these pollutants are vehicles and power plants. The plants and vehicles in the area, the greater the likelihood of acid rain. It also depends on the climate of that particular area. The prevailing winds blow compounds that cause both wet and dry acid deposition in the state and national boundaries, and sometimes hundreds of miles. Acid rain occurs when these gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form various acidic compounds. Sunlight increases the rate of most of these reactions.
Eastern Canada has a big problem with acid rain because water and soil alkalinity is lacking and can not neutralize acid naturally. More half of the land in Canada is composed of hard rock, acid rain is the result of not having the ability to neutralize. Acid rain continues to accumulate because the area has no natural ability to cleanse itself.
The UK Environmental Protection Agency States is working hard to achieve sufficient environmental health benefits for all. They are lobbying to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Both are the cable types of pollutants found in acid rain. Realistically, the cost of doing this is unbelievable. The cost is too large for the government or companies to digest. There are some minor changes that can be practiced, including the cleaning of chimneys and exhaust pipes. The energy conservation and use of alternative energy sources is another way to reduce acid rain. Nuclear power, wind energy and solar energy are just some of the alternative energy sources. On a personal level, lower the thermostat, car survey, complying with emissions regulations, and stay informed.
